Facebook whistleblower fears Meta's plan for the metaverse

The same content problems that plague social media are likely to be recreated in virtual reality, Frances Haugen said.

On a brisk early-December morning Frances Haugen — a Facebook whistleblower and fellow Iowan — and I sipped coffee at Bryant park and talked about the future of technology, politics and Meta.

She told me, "It's the exact same problems you're going to see in VR. Facebook hasn't actually designed safety by design into it from the start."
